Racing to Save Lives with Team in Training

I am thrilled to be a part of the most impactful organization in the fight against cancer – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. Together with my TNT teammates, I swim, bike, and run at epic endurance events around the world to raise funds for critical cancer research and patient care.

Why I am an Ironman

A little over 4 years ago I had never run more than 6 miles.Bob Angus, Vineman 2015, Ironman, Team in Training

On July 25, 2015, I became at Ironman.

Thanks to Team in Training’s IronTeam, I conquered the ultimate endurance challenge at Vineman 2015. That’s a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, topped off with a 26.2 mile marathon. 140.6 miles!

Crossing the finish line was probably the most exhilarating moment in my life. But it was also the most grueling and sometimes painful 15+ hours as well.

What’s motivating me to tackle such a crazy challenge? Simple.

All of us want to find a cure for cancer.

  • Let’s stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma & myeloma from taking more lives.
  • Let’s improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
  • Let’s celebrate the survivors.

We are all effected by cancer. I run in memory of Linda Gunn, my dear and loving friend. A huge part of who I am today and what I believe in is because of Linda, her husband Bob and the whole Gunn family. When I race, I do so to celebrate her and the best way I know how to help find a cure to a cancer that took her away from us too soon.

Together, we are truly making a difference. You’ve helped me raise over $23,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Thank you!

And I’ve seen it firsthand how the funds we’ve raised have produced new cancer treatments, like a new AML drug therapy that was just fast-tracked by the FDA in January.

I’ve met so many wonderful cancer survivors and their families. All who were helped during and after their treatment by LLS. Sadly, I’ve also known dear friends who have not survived. I think about all of them every time I’m climbing a hill or grinding out laps in the pool.

Next Race: Ironman Arizona 2105

Vineman 2015 was my seventh major race with Team in Training. My next race is Ironman Arizona 2015 in November.
